The Instant Decorator, 2001–04

In the early 2000s, Simmons focused on collage and reintroduced the doll house into her photographs. From 2001 to 2004, she worked on the series The Instant Decorator, using a book given to her by her friend, the art critic Jerry Saltz. The book was like a pre-digital version of Pinterest or grown-up paper dolls for sorting out decorating ideas, which allowed her to play with flat imagery and to experiment with colored gels.
