Color Pictures, 2007–09
The images in Color Pictures, 2007–09, depict women in pornographic poses to extend the notion of sexual power initiated with the Long House series but this time in a new doll house that is stripped down and, according to Simmons, feels soulless. Regarding the porn images she downloaded from the internet for free, Simmons recalls, “The women didn’t seem like professionals, they seemed more like college kids who needed money—they just looked so vulnerable and real.” Cutting them out like paper dolls and placing their two-dimensional images in the doll house, similarly to what she had done with the Long House figures, she began to feel involved with the story of the characters, as living people whose images she had access to.
